Welcome to 4th Grade! I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to fourth grade! I am thrilled to be your child’s fourth grade teacher and I am looking forward to a wonderful, productive school year. Teaching your child is a tremendous responsibility and I will do my best to ensure that each student has a safe and motivating learning experience in the upcoming year. However, I cannot do this without the help of you, the parents. We are partners in the learning process.
Throughout the year I will communicate through notes, phone calls, emails, report cards, and parent/teacher conferences. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. You can call me at the school, send me a written note, contact me via email, or call / text my personal cell number. My plan time is 8:30 - 9:20. This would be a good time to reach me during school hours. My contact information is as follows: Email: [email protected] Plainview School: 683-2046 ext:114 Below, I have listed some information that I feel will be useful to you. Lessons for the following subjects will be planned to meet the Missouri Learning Standards. You can access the standards by going to the website below. If you prefer a paper copy, please let me know. https://dese.mo.gov/college-career-rediness/curriculum/missouri-learning-standards Reading - We will do lessons as a whole class, in small groups, and individually. Once we have finished working with a story in the reading series, or a skill, we will have tests. These tests could be any day of the week and will require the students to independently apply the strategies or skills studied in class. AR will be part of the reading grade. Taking time to read is essential for improvement. Please have your child read every day. Language Arts – The Language Arts grade will consist of spelling, grammar, and writing. We will have spelling words each week and the test will be on the last day of the week. Math – We will have classwork, quizzes, and tests with each math chapter. These tests may land on any day of the week. It is very important that your child master the addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts. Science and Social Studies – Tests may fall on any day of the week. Tests will be a combination of short answers, multiple choice, and fill in the blank. Homework Policy – I allow plenty of time for each student to complete their work in class. Therefore, there should not be very much homework other than reading and/or studying for a test. It is a good idea to ask your child each night if they have homework or tests to study for. Homework must be complete and turned in first thing in the morning on the day it is due. Google Classroom – Each grade has a google classroom. This is in case we must close for covid again. On the first day of school, students will sign up for google classroom. We will practice working online at least two times a week (possibly more) so the students will know how to use google classroom from home if they need to. AMI Assignments – Work packets will be distributed during the first parent/teacher conference. I will send packets of student work to be used in case we are out of school for snow days. We can make up 5 missed days by doing this. Social Distancing / Covid – We are taking several precautions to protect our students from the coronavirus. Students will come to the classroom first thing in the morning, and we will keep our class separated from other students. Desks and equipment will be sanitized throughout the day. Students will be washing their hands several times a day. Students will not be using the regular water fountain, but we will have filling stations to refill water bottles. Your child is encouraged to bring a water bottle from home. A water bottle will be provided at school if needed. Other information –
